Our priority is, and always will be, the patients and communities we serve across regional, rural and remote NSW. Everything we do starts with the question: what does our community need from us right now?
To date, there have been no impacts on our ability to deliver our aeromedical retrievals or our primary health services in NSW. Our teams continue to fly, drive, and deliver care exactly where it’s needed.
Because the fuel market is volatile and there is no clear end in sight, we are planning ahead responsibly to protect access for the most vulnerable and making sure no community is cut off from care.
We are acutely aware that many of our communities are under enormous pressure themselves. Fuel prices have spiked dramatically in remote areas, and some towns have reportedly run out of diesel fuel altogether.
For people who already travel hundreds of kilometres for groceries, school runs or a doctor’s appointment, this means incredibly hard choices about how to use the fuel they have. During COVID, we saw that when communities faced heightened pressures, many people delayed GP check‑ups or other important health appointments. We don’t want to see that pattern return.
Our message to our communities is clear: your health is essential. We are working proactively to ensure the Flying Doctor continues to provide timely, accessible care no matter how the fuel crisis evolves. Our commitment to rural and remote Australians does not waver – especially in challenging times like these.
