We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic events in Bondi on the weekend – at a religious celebration that should have been one of happiness and joy.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Vic) unequivocally condemns this attack and stands in support of the Jewish community and all people and families affected.
We urge all governments and authorities to continue to speak and act in ways that ensure such violence can never happen again, and to work together to stamp out antisemitism and racism of all types in our communities.
From a day of horror, we also recognise the incredible stories of bravery and heroism of individuals, and particularly the medical professionals and volunteer first responders.
These people saved many lives and put their own safety at risk for others, which reflects the courage and selflessness of emergency workers.
This includes the volunteers from Hatzolah, and we send our admiration to them for their actions and offer our strong support for their volunteer organisation.
It also includes the incredible bravery of Ahmed al Ahmed whose efforts to disarm one of the attackers undoubtedly saved lives.
We stand united with all those who have been affected by this terrible attack and re-affirm our commitment to a safe and inclusive society.
