Project Manager (Public Health and Research)
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides comprehensive health care and aeromedical retrieval services to regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.
The RFDS Federation Office is seeking a motivated Project Manager (Public Health and Research) to fill a new role based in Canberra for a fixed-term contract (up to five years). Working in a small office team and as a member of the Research & Policy Unit (the Unit), you will manage the RFDS involvement in the Australian Stroke Alliance (ASA) Medical Research Future Fund Frontier Health and Medical Research initiative.
This five-year program will lay the foundations for a national and equitable approach to the treatment of stroke with particular focus on pre-hospital technologies and models of care. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address an unmet clinical need and to deliver urgent stroke care for all Australians. The program brings together over 30 national agencies committed to transforming pre-hospital stroke care. This unique collaboration integrates clinical, academic, scientific, paramedical, consumer, commercial and philanthropic partners.
Working under the direction of the RFDS Director of Public Health and Research, the Project Manager will work closely with the executive leadership team of the ASA. The Project Manager will oversee all aspects of project management and will be responsible for understanding, and operationalising the RFDS stroke-related projects.
The Project Manager will also implement other projects identified by the Director of Public Health and Research.
To be successful in this role, the candidate should have a solid track record in driving and overseeing complex projects in a health environment, involving multiple stakeholders from across research, industry, not-for-profit organisations, consumers and the healthcare sector. The Project Manager is expected to develop strong and cooperative relationships with the broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to project deployment, and ongoing service delivery.
Develop and maintain all appropriate project deliverables and responsibilities, for example, project scheduling, implementation manuals, risk management, change management, issue management, budget and status reporting.
Engage with critical partners and key stakeholders including the Australian Government, essential partner organisations, researchers, clinicians, and not-for-profit organisations to facilitate ongoing inter-institute relations;
Maintain and enhance strong, cooperative and professional working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate successful research collaboration and program delivery in accordance with the ASA’s funding agreement and strategic plan;
Contribute to the culture of the RFDS by setting high standards to ensure continued strong organisational performance.

Essential Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant health or science-related discipline and experience as a project manager (and qualifications in project management).
Highly developed organisational and planning skills, with a level of attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks.
Demonstrated high level project management skills and experience, including previous demonstrated success in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects within budget, scope and to deadline.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement, project schedules, implementation manuals, risk management, change management, issue management and status report documents.
Experience coordinating and facilitating stakeholder engagement activities with a diverse range of stakeholders, plus the ability to influence and manage stakeholders, including the Australian Government, researchers, clinicians, not-for-profit organisations, consumers and healthcare providers.
Demonstrated capacity to work independently, show initiative and exercise discretionary judgment.
Proven ability to successfully lead and co-ordinate the work priorities, productivity and outcomes of strategic advisory councils or working groups.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to initiate and prepare correspondence, briefing papers and reports.
This role will require interstate travel, including to rural and remote locations when necessary. As such, the candidate must be willing and able to travel.
Excellent knowledge of Google suite and Microsoft Office suite
Passion for cause and be an ambassador for the RFDS internally and externally
Desirable Criteria
Familiarity with key stroke stakeholders in Australia.
Experience in stroke and/or other health projects.
Post-graduate qualifications in health, project management, business or other related field.
Remuneration
This is a grant funded fixed-term position for 12 months, with extensions possible for the duration of the 5-year grant period, following a probation period of 3-months. Salary can be provided upon request and is dependent on skills and experience. Salary sacrifice options are available.
