Position Details

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides comprehensive health care and aeromedical retrieval services to regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.

The RFDS Federation Office is seeking an experienced and motivated health data analyst to fill a newly created role based in Canberra.

Working closely with the Director of Policy and Programs and the Director of Finance and Corporate Services, you will be primarily responsible for managing and further developing the burgeoning RFDS national data collection to provide reports relating to service delivery, for the purposes of meeting Commonwealth Government contract reporting obligations, as well as patient demographics and health status of the patients and communities served by the RFDS.

Drawing on sophisticated database and analytical skills, you will identify ways to process and maximise multiple systems utilised across areas of the RFDS to extract robust information that will provide a profile on current service delivery and efficacy, and also assist with informing and forecasting future health service demand.

This position will contribute to the RFDS research program and to the development of a method to collect national data on health outcomes, particularly as related to RFDS primary healthcare services. Success will see this information used by the RFDS for its service planning, by Government for its population health planning, and the wider community as part of ensuring sufficient health services are provided to remote and rural Australians.

Core to this role are the following responsibilities:

• Undertake high level analysis and research of all RFDS health and transport data;
• Undertake statistical analysis to identify service trends and enable reporting on health outcomes;
• Provide high level analytical support to inform service planning, research activities, public policy development and advocacy strategies;
• Maintain accurate and reliable data management systems including national data sets, participation in software development projects and system enhancement activities, provision of expert advice to system users and the promotion of data security and confidentiality;
• Meet all internal and external reporting requirements;
• Develop business intelligence tools and methodologies that advance the analysis of RFDS data;
• Advocate, promote and practice continuous improvement in data quality processes.

Essential Criteria

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in data analytics or a related field
• Highly developed research and analytical skills and demonstrated ability to synthesise complex data
• Experience in the use of information management systems and databases
• Highly sophisticated verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Criteria

• Experience in health data management

Remuneration

A remuneration package, including salary-packaging options commensurate with skills and experience will be offered.
