The RFDS in QLD

Brisbane Airport Corporation

Brisbane Airport (BAC) continues to support the Flying Doctor by providing a gateway to Brisbane’s tertiary hospitals. Whether it is carrying premature babies to the Mater Hospital, moving a critically sick child to the Queensland Children's Hospital, or transferring a patient who has suffered a heart attack to an Intensive Care Unit, BAC provides vital support to the Flying Doctor, giving aeromedical landings the highest priority, as we connect patients to the specialist care they need across Brisbane.

Since the partnership began in 2009, BAC has donated over $4.2 million to the Flying Doctor which has gone towards medically fitting out aircraft and purchasing aeromedical equipment. During this period, the RFDS has landed in Brisbane over 45,000 times, and we thank BAC for playing their part in saving lives across Queensland.

In recognition of the vital role the RFDS plays for those who desperately need Brisbane's medical expertise, on 1 November 2009, Brisbane Airport signed on as a principal partner of the RFDS in Queensland.

Brisbane Airport has been a destination for tens of thousands of RFDS flights and, since 1995, has been home to the RFDS Queensland Head Office. While there has always been a close working relationship between Brisbane Airport and the RFDS, this partnership takes the relationship to a new and exciting level, including plans for a new Aeromedical Base at Brisbane Airport. Construction is due to begin in early 2024. Read more here
