About Us

Since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has played a critical role in delivering aeromedical, emergency transport and primary health services to communities across Australia. In Victoria, our focus reflects the evolving needs of rural and regional communities, where access to timely, high‑quality healthcare remains a challenge. Alongside air and road patient transport, our services are complemented by a broad range of primary health programs designed to improve health outcomes and service accessibility.

About the Role

We are currently in an exciting phase of growth and transformation, strengthening our leadership capability to support our future operations and continued service excellence. Therefore, we are seeking an experienced and people‑focused Volunteer Engagement Lead to drive, support and grow our volunteer program across Eastern Victoria’s regional areas. This role will support the full volunteer lifecycle, working closely with local stakeholders and operational managers to ensure our volunteer programs are responsive, inclusive, and reflective of regional needs.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

- Build and nurture strong partnerships with local community organisations, stakeholders, and networks to deliver meaningful volunteer opportunities
- Drive community-focused volunteer initiatives that reflect regional needs, ensuring programs are inclusive, accessible, and locally relevant
- Drive regional service growth by contributing to planning and expansion initiatives, identifying funding and partnership opportunities, and building strong relationships with local government, health services and community organisations to ensure sustainable, high-quality service delivery
- Collaborate closely with Branch Managers and community partners to strengthen local engagement and foster long-term relationships
- Promote community participation by creating pathways for diverse groups to connect, contribute, and engage in volunteering
- Oversee and support the full volunteer lifecycle across Eastern Victoria’s regional areas, including Sale, Lakes Entrance, and Foster

To be successful, you will need:

- Proven experience driving volunteer or community engagement programs, ideally in a regional or multi‑location environment
- Strong understanding of best‑practice volunteer management and compliance, including the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, sensitive, or high-risk volunteer matters, including complaints, grievances, incidents, conflict resolution, and escalations
- Strong analytical capability and experience using data to inform decisions
- Relevant tertiary qualification Community Services, Social Sciences, Health, Management or a related field or equivalent senior experience
- Role‑specific requirements, including residence within commuting distance of the nominated branch locations, the willingness to travel between multiple locations, a current Australian driver’s licence, right to work in Australia, and completion of, or willingness to complete, required checks (e.g. National Police Check, WWCC)

What working at RFDS can offer you:

- A full-time role with flexible work arrangements to work from different Branches
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- Access to salary packaging options to reduce your taxable income
- Fitness passport – a discounted gym membership to gyms and pools that both you and your family can enjoy
