The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is seeking a skilled and tech-savvy Primary Healthcare Information Specialist (0.8 FTE) on a maximum term contract until 30 June 2026, to optimise practice management systems, streamline workflows, and enhance data quality and integration across general practice and oral health services, including the newly established Goldfields Health Centre.

This is a critical role for someone who enjoys working across systems, solving problems, and empowering teams to use data to drive better care—particularly in regional and remote settings.

About the Role


As the Primary Healthcare Information Specialist, you’ll be responsible for configuring and optimising our practice management platforms, supporting MBS compliance, driving health data reporting, and improving system interoperability. You'll work closely with clinical, IT, and administrative teams to enhance digital workflows, train users, and enable effective decision-making.

Please note: This role involves regular travel to regional sites.

Key Responsibilities


• Configure and optimise practice management systems (Best Practice, Communicare, Dental for Web)

• Ensure MBS billing is optimised for compliance and efficiency

• Establish automated data extraction and reporting into our central data warehouse

• Build dashboards (Power BI, Tableau) and support evaluation of healthcare improvement projects by leveraging clinical data insights

• Support clinical and administrative teams with training, technical troubleshooting, and workflow improvement

• Collaborate with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and internal teams to ensure safe, culturally appropriate care delivery

• Engage in digital health innovation projects and clinical decision support tool implementation

What We’re Looking For


Essential


• Background in clinical informatics, public health, or health administration

• Strong understanding of Medicare, MBS billing, and compliance

• Experience with Best Practice, Communicare, Dental for Web

• Data analysis/reporting proficiency (SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, PenCS)

• Knowledge of data governance, interoperability, and clinical workflows

• Understanding of Australian healthcare privacy laws and My Health Record

• Ability to support and train healthcare professionals in digital systems

Desirable


• Experience working with ACCHOs

• Experience in quality improvement and evaluation projects

• Familiarity with telehealth, remote monitoring, and AI health tools
