About the Role
We're seeking a passionate Oral Health Therapist to deliver safe, high-quality dental care with a patient-centred approach. This role includes providing preventive services, oral health education, and participating in outreach initiatives like the Smile Squad Program, which brings dental care to schools in rural communities. You'll work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead Dental for complex cases and ensure appropriate patient referrals.
Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:
- Perform accurate diagnosis and treatment planning within the program's scope.
- Operate under the Smile Squad and Flying Doctor Dental Clinic guidelines and care pathways.
- Refer patients to specialist or private services as needed in consultation with the Clinical Lead Dental.
- Address client needs, enquiries, and complaints appropriately.
- Identify and manage high-risk patients effectively.
- Ensure effective sterilisation and disinfection of instruments and equipment in line with DBA Infection Control Guidelines.
- Maintain the highest standard of patient care in accordance with DHSV policy and available resources.
- Maintain and process dental records following DHSV standards, DBA Dental Records Guidelines, and the Health Records Act.
- Keep casework and health promotion records updated in Titanium.
- Provide health education and promote oral hygiene during consultations.
Note: This role includes one-week travel placements to rural Victoria with the Smile Squad
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor of Oral Health or equivalent degree, with Extended Scope of Clinical Practice allowing restorative treatment of adults.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with no conditions or undertakings and ongoing commitment to professional development.
- Minimum FIVE years of hands-on clinical experience in Oral Health Therapy.
- Experience in a range of dental practices and procedures, including the provision of public dental services/programs.
- Demonstrated clinical competence within scope of practice - able to provide a comprehensive range of general dental treatments
- Extensive experience in planning and implementing health promotion programs
- Comprehensive understanding of Infection Control guidelines and best practices.
- Radiation Licence
- Professional Indemnity insurance
- Current CPR and First Aid
- Ability to explain complex concepts simply, deliver engaging presentations, and create clear, accessible documentation.
- A collaborative approach to works effectively across teams, contributing expertise to support broader organisational goals and initiatives.
- Confidence in using Microsoft Office, dental software (e.g. Titanium, Unity, Legacy), and adaptable to new technologies and systems
