  • Senior leadership role with formal CASA responsibility under CASR Parts 119, 135 and 133.
  • Lead mission-critical fixed-wing and rotary operations across Western Australia.
  • Mentor pilots, strengthen operational standards and build a proactive safety culture.
  • Purpose-led organisation with a state-wide footprint and national reputation.

About the role

As Head of Flying Operations (HOFO), you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the safe, compliant and effective delivery of all RFDS WO flight operations. As a CASA-approved post holder under Part 119.140, you will report to the Accountable Manager (compliance) and the General Manager Aviation (operations), and hold overarching accountability for flight standards, operational integrity, and pilot leadership across both fixed-wing and rotary-wing services.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role with a strong presence in the field. You will lead, mentor, and develop Line Pilots, taking direct responsibility for their performance management, professional growth, and operational consistency. Through regular base visits and non-checking observation flights, you will provide constructive feedback, coaching, and guidance to reinforce standards, support capability development, and build a strong safety and performance culture.

Working closely with the GM Aviation, Senior Base Pilots Pilots, Head of Training and Checking and other operational leaders, you will ensure alignment of standards and expectations across the network, proactively address performance and risk, and maintain operational readiness for CASA oversight and engagement. Your leadership will be instrumental in building a cohesive, high-performing pilot workforce that consistently delivers safe, reliable aeromedical operations across Western Australia.

About you

  • ATPL (or CPL where applicable) with multi-engine class/type rating.
  • Minimum 500 hours on type/class and 6+ months managing or conducting AOC operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CASR Parts 119, 135, 133 and strong SMS capability.
  • Proven aviation leadership with effective communication and regulatory liaison skills.
  • Aeromedical, emergency services or remote operations experience highly desirable.
