The Organisation

Proudly serving Australians since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides emergency aeromedical and allied health services for people in rural and remote Australia. We strive towards improving the health and wellbeing of our rural communities and believe in creating opportunities so all Victorians have the choice to access essential primary health care services.

The Role

Royal Flying Doctor Dental team is excited to be growing our presence in regional and rural communities across the state. We are currently seeking a part-time Dentist to join our experienced team of Dentists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Assistants and Program Managers. The role requires travelling to rural locations throughout Victoria to provide essential dental services to small communities that do not have easy access to public dental services.

A large proportion of people living in remote and rural Australia do not have access to a regular dental service. Recognising the important link between oral health and overall health, the RFDS has established oral health services in parts of remote and rural Australia. These services are provided using mobile and outreach deliver models.

This role is so much more than a regular Dentist role! Imagine working in your chosen profession within the dental industry and being able to travel to parts of Victoria you have never seen before to deliver a service that my otherwise not be accessible if it weren't for the RFDS dental programs. Not only is this role rewarding, but you would also be working for a service that wants to invest time in you providing both internal and external training days in order to ensure you have the best opportunities of growing within your career.

The role of the Dentist is in the provision of a range of clinical dental services consistent with the scope of practice of Dental Health Services Victoria and the FDDC including the management of patient care, patient safety, infection control, record keeping and health promotional activities.

Clinical and professional responsibilities include:

- Undertake accurate diagnosis and treatment planning within scope of practice for the program
- Provide appropriate referral of patients for specialist services or private services for non-eligible patients
- Identify high risk patients and manage effectively
- Maintain communication with the Heal Services Manager, Operations Team Leader and Dental Assistants for the coordination of activities
- Maintain effective practices for the sterilisation and disinfection of instruments and equipment to prevent cross infection
- Maintain and process dental records in accordance with DHSV record standards, the DBA Dental Records Guidelines and the Health Records Act
- Provide health education and promote oral hygiene

Qualifications, skills and experience required:

- Relevant tertiary qualification (i.e. Bachelor of Dental Science)
- Current registration with AHPRA with no current conditions
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience
- Advanced level of clinical competence including the ability to work independently
- Experience using Titanium and Microsoft suites
- Knowledge of public dental programs and experience with the provision of mobile dental services (highly desirable)
- Professional Indemnity insurance cover
- Current full Victorian Divers License and the ability to drive a large vehicle in metropolitan and rural areas

Mandatory vaccination policy:

As part of the application process, you will be required to provide evidence of the following vaccinations:

- Hepatitis B
- Chicken Pox
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella
- Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis
- Annual Influenza
- COVID-19 (2 vaccinations + booster)

This position will also require DHSV accreditation, public indemnity and liability insurances and a valid radiation licence.

All positions are subject to a National Police Check and holding a Working with Children Check

RFDS offers a competitive salary with options to maximise your take home pay with generous not-for-profit salary packaging of up to $15,900 free income per tax year and up to an additional $2,650 additional tax-free money to spend towards meals and entertainment.
