This newly created position is responsible for managing, delivering and coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of complex property projects at RFDS. The Capital Works Manager will play an integral part of achieving project outcomes and support the achievement of organisational objectives. This role will be on a full-time basis and located at the Jandakot base with travel on a regular basis to other RFDS WO regional bases.

 

About the role


- Review and update capital works projects contained in the Property Strategy in consultation with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) for Board approval
- Develop proposals and project mange capital works delivery
- Manage and oversee all aspects of project planning, development and implementation for a range of projects
- Develop and implement strategies and tools for the continuous monitoring and evaluation of performance, including risk and contingency management, benefits realisation, and project impact and quality measures
- Manage stakeholder relationships particularly the consultant team associated with the projects through effective communication, negotiation and issues management
- Identify suitable service providers/contractors and undertake due diligence in terms of vendor procurement documentation and risk assessments/orientation
- Maintain a constructive leadership and communication style that supports all employees to feel respected and valued as part of our organisation
 

About you


- Demonstrated experience in the construction of major capital works projects
- Experience in coordinating a professional consultant team on major projects and managing project budgets. 
- Demonstrated understanding of key issues relating to the delivery of capital works in remote locations
- Demonstrated capacity to operate effectively in an environment of change
- Demonstrated understanding of ethical issues of procurement, including conflict of interest, competition, and transparency
- Experience in utilising Facilities Management software (desirable)
- Degree in architecture, project management, or a related field (desirable)

The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.

 

In 2024, the RFDS is launching a new five-year strategy ‘Above and Beyond’, which will mark an important new chapter in the long Flying Doctor history. The strategy will include a focus on expanding remote health clinics in some of WA’s most vulnerable communities, expanding our profit-for-purpose services, strengthening our workforce, harnessing technology and addressing our environmental sustainability.
