The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head of Airworthiness to join the Royal Flying Doctor Service – South Eastern Section (RFDSSE). This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within a purpose‑driven organisation, where aviation excellence directly enables better health outcomes for the communities we serve.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will lead the Airworthiness function and ensure the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the RFDSSE aircraft fleet. You will work collaboratively across Aviation, Engineering, and Health teams, shaping the future of airworthiness within a dynamic and evolving aeromedical environment.

The Role

As Head of Airworthiness, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of continuing airworthiness and maintenance control activities
  • Ensure all aircraft consistently meet the highest regulatory, safety and operational standards
  • Lead, mentor and develop a highly skilled team of airworthiness and engineering professionals
  • Partner with leaders across the organisation to deliver RFDSSE’s business strategy
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, processes and risk management
  • Act as a visible role model of RFDS values, leadership behaviours and safety culture
  • This role offers significant autonomy and influence, ideal for a leader who thrives on accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

About You

You are a confident, detail‑driven leader with strong commercial acumen and a relentless focus on safety, compliance and service excellence. You bring deep technical expertise, the ability to work across organisational boundaries, and a passion for aviation with purpose.

Essential Criteria

  • Currently hold, or previously held, regulatory approval as:
    • Head of Aircraft Airworthiness and Maintenance Control (HAAMC), or
    • Approved Continuing Airworthiness Manager, or
    • Responsible Manager
  • Hold or has previously held an aircraft engineer licence (B1 or B2), or qualifications in one of the following:
    • Certificate IV in Aircraft Maintenance
    • Diploma of Aviation Maintenance Management
    • Diploma in Engineering (Aeronautical, Avionics, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CASA regulations and standards relating to continuing airworthiness and aircraft maintenance
  • Demonstrated capability to develop and maintain Continuing Airworthiness Expositions
  • Proven experience in budget preparation and operational reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of computer‑based maintenance management systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Eligibility to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
