About Us
When people talk about the Flying Doctor, thoughts generally turn to red-bellied planes undertaking rescue missions in the Outback. However, the current Victorian story is one that reflects today's challenges for people living in remote and rural communities across the state. While we do still transport people by air and by road, this work is complemented by a range of primary health services that address the most common issues people living in country Victoria face when accessing health care.
About the Role
The Quality and Compliance Lead will provide expert leadership of the Quality Management System (QMS) and associated governance frameworks, strengthening the organisation’s ability to consistently deliver safe, high‑quality and compliant services. Through strong system oversight, analysis and insight generation, the role supports organisational assurance, accreditation readiness, privacy and information governance, and proactive risk management.
We are open to applicants located across regional Victoria who are able to work from any RFDS branch in the state or from our head office in Richmond. Working collaboratively with leaders and teams, the Quality & Compliance Lead embeds practical quality processes, documentation and feedback systems into everyday practice, enabling continuous improvement, clear accountability and timely responses to emerging risks.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Lead stewardship of the organisation’s Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring it is integrated, compliant, and supports safe, consistent and effective service delivery.
- Oversee enterprise feedback and insight systems, translating feedback into actionable insights that inform risk management, planning, continuous improvement and assurance.
- Lead document and records governance, ensuring policies, procedures and client information are current, accessible, secure and managed in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Fulfil Privacy Officer responsibilities, providing oversight, advice and governance relating to privacy, confidentiality, information sharing and Release of Information (ROI) processes.
- Drive the organisation’s continuous improvement approach, supporting teams to identify, prioritise and sustain improvements aligned with strategic and operational priorities.
- Oversee the assurance, compliance and accreditation environment, ensuring risk‑based and proportionate mechanisms maintain compliance with relevant standards and regulatory obligations.
- Maintain continuous accreditation readiness through proactive oversight of assurance planning, findings, corrective actions and system‑level improvements.
- Lead integrated quality and compliance reporting, providing meaningful insights on trends, risks, system performance and improvement effectiveness to Executive and Board governance groups.
To be successful, you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in quality, governance, health, risk management or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in quality assurance, compliance, continuous improvement, assurance or risk management within a complex organisation.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends and risks, and provide clear, actionable insights to senior leaders.
- Experience in document control and compliance reporting, with a strong focus on governance quality and consistency.
- Experience performing Privacy Officer functions or managing Release of Information processes, with sound knowledge of privacy obligations and information governance.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, practical guidance, documentation and presentations for diverse audiences.
- A collaborative and influential approach, with the ability to work across teams as a trusted advisor while upholding governance standards and system ownership.
- Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a current Working with Children's Check, National Police Check, and the right to work in Australia.
