Central West and Outback Mental Health

At RFDS (Queensland Section), we’re proud to deliver vital mental health support across Western Queensland through targeted programs such as Wellbeing Out West, Children and Parenting Support, the Drought Wellbeing Service, Remote Wellbeing Service, Psychological Therapies and Low Intensity Mental Health. These services reach deep into rural communities, offering care where it’s needed most.

Our Outback Mental Health team is based across Charleville, Longreach, Toowoomba, Emerald, and Mount Isa. Roles are offered as live-in positions, working Monday to Friday, or as FIFO positions in select locations, with a flexible 12-days-on, 9-days-off roster—providing both variety and balance.

Far North Mental Health and Wellbeing Service

Since 2000, the RFDS has delivered culturally appropriate, evidence-based mental health care to some of the most remote communities in Far North Queensland. Our team provides tailored support to individuals with mild to moderate mental health needs through programs focused on Psychological Therapies and Child and Parenting Support.

Our Far North Mental Health team is based across regions north and west of Cairns, including the Cape York Peninsula and Gulf of Carpentaria. Team members live in Cairns and travel to the communities we serve via FIFO or DIDO arrangements. We work Monday to Thursday, with overnight stays in community up to five nights per fortnight. With slightly longer workdays during the week, we enjoy Fridays off—giving us the perfect balance between meaningful work and well-earned downtime.
