Description

When Reverend John Flynn founded the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in 1928, it was made possible through an extraordinary act of generosity - a single bequest. Nearly a century on, Gifts in Wills remain central to our story, enabling life‑saving healthcare for people across regional, rural, and remote Queensland.  At the RFDS (Queensland Section), Gifts in Wills (GIW) represent one of our most important and fastest‑growing income streams, providing critical long‑term funding for essential services.

We’re looking for a talented Relationship Specialist – GIW to join our team in a permanent, full‑time role. This is a relationship-focused role within a mature and growing GIW program that has strong executive and Board support and clear long-term ambition.

In this role, you will be part of an integrated, multi-channel GIW strategy that includes digital acquisition, personalised stewardship and strong collaboration across fundraising and philanthropy.

If you’re passionate about building meaningful connections, energised by innovative, purpose-driven initiatives, and eager to help shape the future of one of Australia’s most trusted charities, this is your opportunity!

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, nurture, and retain a portfolio of confirmed GIW supporters
  • Deliver exceptional stewardship through personalised visits, calls, events, tours, and tailored communications
  • Plan and deliver GIW‑focused events and supporter experiences
  • Reconfirm all confirmed GIW donors at least every two years
  • Work closely with solicitors, executors, and legal professionals to administer estates and strengthen understanding of the RFDS (Queensland Section) GIW program
  • Collaborate with RFDS Base teams, volunteers, and Auxiliary groups to deliver meaningful supporter engagement
  • Coordinate tours, speaking engagements, and outreach opportunities
  • Maintain accurate donor data to support forecasting and reporting
  • Support GIW marketing initiatives with innovative thinking
  • Contribute to broader, innovative fundraising and philanthropy initiatives across the organisation.
Who we are looking for
  • A natural relationship‑builder who thrives on creating meaningful, long‑term connections with supporters, partners, and community members
  • 3–5 years’ experience in fundraising, marketing, public relations, or a related field, with a strong track record of cultivating and nurturing stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in the not‑for‑profit sector, ideally with GIW, with an understanding of how trust and rapport drive impact
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills that enable you to engage authentically and tailor interactions to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to deliver high‑quality stewardship experiences that deepen supporter loyalty and strengthen organisational relationships
  • Strong organisational skills that support consistent, thoughtful follow‑up and the ability to balance multiple relationship priorities at once
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring every interaction feels personalised, considered, and valued
  • Confidence working with data and CRM systems to understand supporter journeys and inform relationship‑building strategies
  • Event management experience that enables you to create warm, engaging experiences that bring supporters closer to the mission
