Description
When Reverend John Flynn founded the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in 1928, it was made possible through an extraordinary act of generosity a single bequest. Today, nearly a century later, Gifts in Wills remain at the heart of our story, helping us deliver life-saving healthcare to regional, rural, and remote Queensland.
The RFDS (Queensland Section) is seeking an inspiring, strategic, and relationship-focused leader to join our team as Special Supporter Manager. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of healthcare access in Australia by leading our Gifts in Wills (GIW) relationships program - an essential pillar of our long-term Fundraising & Philanthropy strategy.
As our Special Supporter Manager, you’ll understand every facet of this exciting and dynamic space and you’ll have plenty of innovative ideas about how you’ll take our GIW program to the next level.
Leading the strategic growth of our bequest program you’ll guide and inspire a dedicated team, work collaboratively across the organisation, and ensure every legacy donor is honoured with care, respect, and connection from their first conversation with us through to the realisation of their gift.
If you’re an experienced fundraising leader with a passion for legacy giving, this is your opportunity to shape the future of an iconic Australian charity - just as one bequest shaped our beginnings.
Key Role Requirements:
- Build strong partnerships across RFDS to unify fundraising efforts and grow philanthropy programs.
- Guide and mentor the Special Supporter Coordinators with a focus on donor-centric relationship management.
- Coach the broader team to support data capture and build capability and scale for meaningful conversations.
- Collaborate with marketing and major gifts teams to implement innovative GIW strategies and identify major gift prospects.
- Develop and deliver stewardship strategies that foster trust and advance donor engagement toward estate realisation.
- Maintain high standards in supporter experience, ethical fundraising, data integrity, timely estate administration, and CRM accuracy.
- Monitor performance metrics, provide data-driven insights, and promote innovation and continuous improvement in fundraising.
- A relationship specialist with expertise in GIW and legacy fundraising, skilled in managing donor lifecycles and stewardship best practices.
- You can inspire and motivate a team to deliver high performance and embed philanthropy with the supporter at the centre of fundraising strategies.
- You’ll have strong CRM and data management skills to maintain accurate records that support effective donor stewardship.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to design and implement impactful programs in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- An exceptional communicator – empathetic and active listener who builds trust and fosters meaningful, long-term donor relationships.
- A collaborative team mentor who leads with integrity, respect, and a values-driven approach.
- A qualified professional with a relevant university degree and substantial fundraising experience or equivalent expertise.
At the RFDS (Queensland Section), you’ll be driven by purpose not tasks; it's about being part of an organisation where, whatever your role, you make a difference each day to people’s lives. We offer flexibility so you can look after your well-being and commitments, getting the very best from life professionally and personally.

With projects in the pipeline, it’s an exciting time to join the RFDS with many new prospects around the corner!
We value our people, and we are passionate about making a difference for people who live, work and travel in remote, rural, and regional Australia. By joining the RFDS, you will have access to the following:
