The RFDS in NSW/ACT

Face to Face Fundraising

We’re in your community. Have you seen us around?

You may have seen our Royal Flying Doctor Service Fundraisers out and about in your local community, whether in your Shopping Centre, in your Street or even at an event. They're working hard to connect with caring and committed people like you who want to help save the lives of people living, working and travelling in the bush by making a regular donation.

Our fundraisers are very easy to spot as they always wear their uniform, a blue polo shirt with our logo and their photo ID on an RFDS lanyard. Depending on the time of the year, they may also be wearing an RFDS cap, beanie or jacket. So next time you see us, say hello, we’d love to chat!

Nicolas Jacka F2F Fundraiser

“I have fundraised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section for the past three years and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. What I love most are the stories from people who we’ve helped, or from those who know someone who has been supported by our service.

Getting to hear just how much our service helps and supports the local communities is incredibly rewarding. I’m honoured to represent and raise funds for such a respected and needed service in Australia.”

- Nicolas, Face to Face Fundraiser

Ruth and family

RFDS Supporter, Ruth believes in the power of making a regular donation, and hopes you will, too.

Ruth first signed up on behalf of her daughters, who wanted to support on a regular basis but couldn’t afford to do so.

“My philosophy is ‘give what you can and try and encourage other people to give as well.”

“The flying doctor covers so much of the country. So many people need it, and if you can’t keep flying, that’s a huge loss to communities,” she said.

What is Face to Face Fundraising?

Our section covers a vast area with countless rural, regional and remote communities that depend on our work. Face to Face fundraising provides us a cost-effective way to reach people right across this enormous territory and into metropolitan areas, bringing our message directly to members of the public who wish to support us on a regular basis.

While our medical teams focus on what they do best, providing life-saving emergency care and essential health services, our fundraisers are trained to be knowledgeable advocates who can speak confidently about our work, answer questions, and share how Regular Giving can make a significant difference in the lives of people in rural, regional and remote NSW and the ACT. We invest in training our fundraisers to be knowledgeable advocates who can speak confidently about our work. They're equipped with real stories, up-to-date information about our services, and a genuine passion for our mission.

Face to face fundraising has been used by respected charities worldwide for over 25 years across sectors including health research, human rights, humanitarian aid and animal welfare. For us, it’s not only an effective way to secure the ongoing support we need to keep our planes in the air, but it’s also one of the best opportunities we have to hear directly from the public, including the incredible stories of people’s connections with the Flying Doctor.

Do you pay a third party to fundraise on your behalf?

Yes, we utilise professional fundraising agencies to minimise our fixed costs and ensure the greatest amount of resources is focused on delivering care to those who need it most. This is currently the most cost-effective and sustainable way for us to secure ongoing donations.

Our Face to Face fundraising agencies receive a one-off service fee for each donor they secure on our behalf, however it is important to note we pay this fee out of a pre-allocated budget, not out of an individual’s donation. All monies donated by you to the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDS SE) will be received in their entirety.

Why don’t you use volunteers?

Volunteers play a vital role in many areas of our work. Still, fundraising of this magnitude and importance needs significant and consistent resourcing, and we have found that employing a third party is the most effective way to do this.

Is Face to Face fundraising regulated?

Yes. All Face to Face fundraising must comply with all regulations set by state governments, local authorities and councils.

We are also an accredited member of the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association - PFRA, and we comply with strict regulations to ensure transparent fundraising practices. We only work with professional agencies that are registered with the PFRA.

How do I know if the fundraiser is a genuine Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) Face to Face fundraiser?

All fundraisers must wear our branded uniform, a navy blue Polo shirt with our logo and have their photo ID badge (which also shows the PFRA logo) on display. At certain times of the year, they may also wear our branded cap, beanie or jacket.

If you're ever unsure, don't hesitate to ask to see their ID or contact us directly on 1300 669 569 or email us supporter@rfdsse.or.au

Why do fundraisers use the Evergiving platform instead of the official website of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) to capture my donation details?

We use Evergiving because it offers features specifically designed for the ever-changing realities of face to face fundraising.

Evergiving is certified as Level 1 PCI DSS compliant, the highest payment data security standard. This certification ensures that your personal and financial information is handled with top-tier protection, allowing your donation to be processed safely and efficiently.

Can I give a cash donation to your fundraisers instead?

Unfortunately not. Due to security and cash handling legislative procedures, our fundraisers cannot accept a cash donation. They are only allowed to accept ongoing donations as this information can be captured electronically and transferred securely to Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) via the Evergiving platform.

If you would like to make a one-off donation, you can do so here.
