He chose the Royal Flying Doctor Service in his Will as he felt the Flying Doctor has always demonstrated that they know what they are doing, and he trusts they know how to best use his gift in the future.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service has been part of Richard’s life since he was a young man. His auntie, a wartime nurse, told stories about the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s contribution to health delivery after World War 2.
He also saw our aircraft land on roads “in the middle of nowhere” after two separate vehicle accidents. “Only an RFDS aircraft could get down on those roads,” said Richard.
Back in 2012, Richard was able to be with his elderly mother and comfort her at the end of her life. She had unexpectedly become seriously ill on a holiday bus trip between Darwin and Adelaide and the Flying Doctor was called to bring her to Sydney to receive palliative care.
This flight enabled Richard to have this special time with his mum and is why he’s chosen to leave a legacy.
“That’s when I became a supporter, and I will be for as long as I’ve got breath in my body. My wife Carla and I also have the Flying Doctor in our wills. There’ll always be a need for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and today its role is even more important. The care they showed my mother, I’ll never forget that.”
Making a bequest to the Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the most impactful ways to leave a legacy that provides life-long medical care in the bush. Thanks to your compassionate support, you made Richard’s special moments with his mum possible.
