Eleven-year-old Gemma started the school year with an extra big smile after her dental treatment at Goodooga, made possible by your kind heart.
Gemma’s family live on a station near Goodooga, 65 kilometres from Lightning Ridge in New South Wales, so a dental checkup isn’t simple. But thanks to you, Gemma has had regular checkups with her dental team since she was five.
On her last visit to our dental van, Gemma had some fillings, and says it was quick and painless. “The RFDS talk you through everything. My favourite thing in the van is the big picture on the roof that changes, so every time you count the fish, you get a different number.”
Regular dental visits and treatment can be incredibly difficult for outback communities, and small problems often become painful emergencies for children as young as two.
Your support means children like Gemma and her siblings have the ongoing checkups and treatment they need to catch any dental issues before they can become a serious problem.
“We’re not like people in the city. We can’t just go downtown to the dentist; we have to drive a fair way. The RFDS bring their dental vans closer to save us a longer drive,” Gemma says.
Your compassion eases the burden of long journeys to the dentist, prevents dental issues before they begin, and helps families in the bush, like Gemma’s, grow up healthier and smiling!
