Dr. Richard Rawson OAM, our visiting Ophthalmologist has been treating remote communities where there is little to no access to an optometrist for more than 20 years.

Thanks to generous supporters like you, people in the bush are getting the care they need to protect their sight, prevent serious conditions, and maintain their independence.

Dr. Rawson travels to small communities like Menindee, Tibooburra, Ivanhoe and Brewarrina, equipped with his specialist eye testing equipment.

With these tools, he can assess vision, detect and manage more serious conditions like glaucoma and cataracts before it’s too late, and provides free reading glasses when needed. He helps patients understand their needs and directs them to further specialist care if needed.

“They appreciate having someone they can talk to about their concerns, without the pressure of a busy clinic,”
said Dr. Rawson.

Over the years, he has diagnosed countless conditions, sometimes detecting sight-threatening problems that patients were completely unaware of. With diabetes becoming more prevalent and impacting eyesight, his role in early detection is more crucial than ever.

Your amazing support ensures that people in rural communities continue to receive the vital eyecare they rely on every day – just as Dr. Rawson has provided for the past 20 years, and for many more to come!
