RFDS Heatwave Update: We’re Still Here for You

Date published

28 Jan 2026

As this extended heatwave continues across NSW - with inland areas experiencing some of the hottest conditions in decades - we want our communities to know that RFDS services remain operational. If we need to make any changes to your clinic appointment this week, such as moving to telehealth or travelling by road instead of by air, our team will contact you directly.

Your safety is our priority, and extreme heat can impact how we deliver care — including how our aircraft operate - but we will always ensure you receive the support you need.

How you can stay safe this week

  • Stay hydrated - drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Use sun protection - wear a hat, loose clothing and sunscreen.
  • Keep cool - avoid travelling or working outside in the middle of the day where possible.

Know the signs of dehydration

If you or someone near you is becoming dehydrated, you may notice:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth or feeling extremely thirsty

If symptoms worsen, please seek medical help.

If you need urgent support

  • Call 000 in an emergency.
  • If you are far from immediate help, call 1800 DRS FLY (1800 377 359) for assistance.

We’re proud to continue supporting rural and remote communities during this extreme weather. Please take care of yourselves and look out for each other - and remember, if anything changes with your clinic, we’ll be in touch.
