The RFDS in NSW/ACT

Our Fleet

Our reliable and versatile fleet of aircraft help us to deliver life-saving care to the furthest corner of the country. Whether it's challenging weather conditions or a dirt airstrip, our fleet enables us to be ready to respond – no matter where you live, work or play.

The national RFDS fleet consists of 81 aircraft. Currently in South Eastern Section, we operate a total of 14 aircraft: 10 King Air B200s and 4 King Air B350s.

  • The B200s are our smallest aircraft and are well-suited for landing on the many hundreds of smaller airstrips we can be called to in the event of an emergency. Our B200s are also a common sight transporting our primary healthcare teams to remote clinics.
  • Our B350s are larger and are primarily used to transport patients between hospitals, for bariatric patients, neonatal transport and also help to transport healthcare specialists to regional communities through our RAHS program.
B-Roll Aircraft

“In an emergency, every second counts; and when flying into remote and rural properties, finding suitable airstrips to land is a critical part of attending an emergency safely, reliably and quickly.

This is why the South Eastern Section undertook a major project in 2024 to update the register of several hundred airstrips that the team can attend.”

- Cameron Gibbs, Chief Pilot and Head of Flight Operations

Did you know?

There are around 400 airstrips across NSW and the ACT, as well as parts of north-eastern South Australia and south-western Queensland that we can fly to.

Many of these airstrips are owned and maintained by private property owners that we can use to get as close as possible to an emergency.

Are you a private airstrip owner?

Download our airstrip maintenance handbook to ensure we can attend your location when called.
