Join our Dental Team

The RFDS Dental Team provides vital oral health care to rural and remote communities across Western Australia, where access to regular dental treatment is often limited or non-existent.
As a Dentist with the RFDS, you’ll step outside the bounds of traditional private practice and into a rewarding role that brings essential dental services to those who need it most. Operating on a flexible, casual basis, you’ll spend one to two weeks at a time providing emergency, preventative, and general dental care in regional WA – all while supported by a professional, purpose-driven team.
This is more than a career move – it's a chance to make a tangible difference.
About Your Role
You’ll work closely with a Dental Assistant to deliver fly-in fly-out dental clinics across remote Western Australia. In this hands-on, community-focused role, you will:
- Provide emergency, preventative, and general dental care to children and adults.
- Offer oral health education and promote long-term wellbeing.
- Refer patients to specialist services when more complex treatments are required.
- Deliver care at fixed clinics – with future opportunities using mobile dental kits in very remote settings.
- Travel in and out of regional locations for one- to two-week blocks, with a commitment of at least 4–6 weeks per year.
Clinic days are structured but flexible – typically starting in the morning and finishing in the afternoon, depending on community needs.
What You’ll Get
Our flexible dental roles are designed to work around your lifestyle while offering unique professional experiences:
- Casual, fly-in fly-out roster – maintain your existing role and pick up shifts when it suits you.
- Minimum 4-week commitment per year – delivered in blocks of 1–2 weeks.
- Paid travel time, meal allowances, and accommodation while on site.
- Salary packaging – up to $15,900 per annum for everyday expenses and $2,650 for meals and entertainment.
- Novated leasing options available.
- The chance to practice in unique clinical environments and grow your experience in public, Indigenous, and remote health care.

What You’ll Need
We’re looking for dentists who are clinically capable, community-minded, and ready to adapt to the challenges of remote health care. You’ll need:
- AHPRA registration as a Dental Practitioner.
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience (rural or remote experience highly regarded).
- The ability to commit to at least four weeks per year of remote work (in one–two week blocks).
- Interest in primary and Indigenous health care.
- Experience in comprehensive treatment planning, including extractions and surgical procedures.
- A strong commitment to patient-centred care and professional excellence.
- Professional indemnity insurance.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with electronic patient records.
- A current, unrestricted driver’s licence.
