The RFDS in WA
By employing the most qualified medical specialists, investing in ground breaking aircraft and technology, and through a commitment to service innovation, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in Western Australia is a world-leader in aeromedical innovation.
In Western Australia, the RFDS has a waiting room that spans 2.5 million square kilometres, making it one of the largest and most remote health jurisdictions in the world.
Our services include; 24-hour emergency evacuations, inter-hospital transfers including COVID-19 transfers and a range of primary health care services.
Today, we operate the largest RFDS fleet anywhere in Australia with 22 aircraft including 3 Rio Tinto LifeFlight PC-24 jets, 17 PC-12 turboprop aircraft and the latest addition to our fleet - 2 Fortescue Heli-Med Service EC-145 helicopters.
Each RFDS aircraft is fitted out with state-of-the-art aeromedical equipment operating as Intensive Care Units in the sky, putting time on the side of our patients.
Our team of nearly 400 doctors, flight nurses, pilots, engineers, logisticians, administrative and corporate staff give their everything, every day, to ensure the finest care reaches the furthest corners of Western Australia.
We have five strategically located bases throughout Western Australia - in Broome, Port Hedland, Meekatharra, Kalgoorlie and Jandakot - which are all equipped and staffed to respond as needed. Our people live and work in the communities we serve and support the regional health infrastructure.
The RFDS in Western Australia is committed to ensuring health equity for all who live, work and holiday in our great State - just like we have for more than 95 years.
