Frequently Asked Questions

What is Flying Doctor Day?

On 15 May we’re celebrating the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Flying Doctor Service – and we’d love your help to spread the word and celebrate with us!

We’re on a mission to ensure we can continue to bring the finest medical care to all Western Australians who live, work or travel around our great state.

Why should I donate to Flying Doctor Day?

Our service is needed now more than ever. 2023 was our busiest calendar year on record, with more than 16,000 patients treated by our frontline crews across WA.

Your donation will help us equip our aircraft with vital medical equipment to enable us to continue to provide essential services to people in need across Western Australia.

How can I donate?

To donate to our Flying Doctor Day fundraising appeal, you can visit the website flyingdoctorday.com.au or call our friendly fundraising team on 08 9417 6400.

To become a Champion, please email fundraise@rfdswa.com.au or visit flyingdoctorday.com.au/champions for more information.

What is a Champion?

Becoming a Flying Doctor Day Champion is one of the most impactful ways you can get involved as it will inspire your team and network to get on board and donate too.

Champions can be individuals, workplaces, schools or community groups who come together to raise money for the Flying Doctor by running an activity like a Paper Plane Challenge or hosting a social event like a morning tea.

As a Champion you will be set up with your own  fundraising page on the Flying Doctor website which you can share directly with your network. People you know can then donate directly to your page.

Don’t forget, any donations made before or on Flying Doctor Day (Wednesday 15 May) will be doubled by our Matched Giving Partners.

How is my donation doubled?

Every dollar donated up to and on Flying Doctor Day (Wednesday 15 May) will be matched, dollar for dollar, by our generous Matched Giving Partners, CBH Group, IGO Limited and Westgold, until we reach our first goal.

How much of my donation is tax deductible?

All donations over $2 are tax deductible, however, you are only able to claim the amount you personally donate - not the total matched amount.

A tax receipt will be sent to you after you have made your donation.

Where does my money go?

This Flying Doctor Day, the RFDS in WA will be raising funds for lifesaving medical equipment to support the 28 patient retrievals we make every day.

How can I promote Flying Doctor Day?

We would love for you to celebrate Flying Doctor Day with your friends, family and colleagues, and help us to spread the word that wherever life takes you, the Flying Doctor is never far away.

Please share our posts on social media, pin a poster up in your office, or even sell some cupcakes! Every little bit helps to make a big difference for our service.
