This Dental Health Week, the Royal Flying Doctor Service Tasmania is proud to celebrate two rising stars in our dental team, Oliver and Georgia, who have recently completed their Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
Their achievement marks not only a personal milestone but a meaningful step forward in improving oral health outcomes for communities across rural and remote Tasmania.
Both Oliver and Georgia have been working with RFDS Tasmania for over a year. In that time, they’ve become valued members of our mobile dental service. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to learning have made a lasting impact, not just within our team but in the lives of the patients they serve.
For Oliver, the journey into dental assisting began with a curiosity about healthcare and a desire to make a difference. “I had always been conscious of my own oral health,” he shares. “And thought, why not see if I can help educate others on theirs?” That spark led him to a traineeship with RFDS Tasmania, where he quickly found his place.

“Education plays the biggest role in a person’s oral health. If we can provide the right information, we can make a lasting impact.”
Oliver Gourlay, RFDS Tasmania Dental AssistantOliver's passion for growth and service shines through in every patient interaction, especially when working with children. “Seeing a child leave the clinic feeling confident in their ability to care for their teeth, that’s what stays with me.”
And his experiences in rural communities have deepened his understanding of the challenges many Tasmanians face.
The RFDS Tasmania team has been a constant source of support throughout Oliver’s journey. “Having a friendly environment that only wants to see each other succeed played a massive role in my time studying,” he says.

Congratulations to our newest qualified dental assistants. Your dedication is helping shape a brighter, healthier future for Tasmania.
