RFDS David Ingram Physical Health Scholarship

Overview

In honour of David Ingram, who was a much-valued employee of Fairbrother for 37 years and was instrumental in training apprentices over many years. This had a significant impact on many young lives and left a wonderful legacy, influencing their own success and Fairbrother as a result.

In retirement, David was a significant contributor to the annual Fairbrother Ride (which raises money for the Fairbrother Foundation) volunteering for every Ride that took place and was a key figure in the ride's success. As an avid outback traveller and fisher, David could relate to and valued the role the RFDS played in rural and regional locations. This scholarship honours David’s strong work ethic and his belief in training and upskilling young people in the workplace.

The RFDS and UTAS acknowledge the generous financial support of the Fairbrother Foundation to provide this scholarship.

The RFDS David Ingram Physical Health Scholarship provides two final-year Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science students with the opportunity to live and work in a rural, regional, or remote Tasmanian community. Through a two-week placement with the RFDS, students will gain valuable experience supporting individuals with chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, musculoskeletal conditions, and dementia.

During the placement, students will work closely with RFDS Exercise Physiologists and Exercise Scientists to conduct initial assessments, deliver one-on-one appointments, oversee group exercise classes, and develop tailored home exercise programs. This immersive experience offers a unique opportunity to understand the challenges and rewards of delivering healthcare in rural and remote settings, with a focus on improving access and outcomes for underserved populations.
