When Judy’s hip unexpectedly dislocated while caravanning near Cobar, you helped deliver her to Dubbo to get the specialist care she needed.

Judy was in her caravan getting ready to go out to dinner with her husband when her hip dislocated. “I was screaming in pain; it was indescribable,” she said.

Because there were no orthopaedic surgeons at Cobar Hospital to put Judy’s hip back in place, our Emergency Retrieval team was urgently mobilised to take Judy to Dubbo for the vital care she needed. As Judy explains, it was important that she was seen by a specialist due to her previous hip replacement.

Our doctor onboard ensured Judy’s comfort to make it through the flight. “The doctor said to me when we were landing, I’m going to give you quite a bit of pain relief to help you get through this. I was so grateful,” Judy stated.

Judy saw the orthopaedic surgeon at Dubbo hospital to treat her hip and is now recovering well. “I wonder what would have happened to me if the Flying Doctor hadn’t been there. Would I have had to be transported all that way in a car, in extreme pain? When the nurse came in and said the Flying Doctor was on their way, I knew I was going to be all right,” she concluded.

It’s because of you that Judy, and others like her, travelling in the outback, can rely on the Flying Doctor for the critical emergency care they need, even far from home. So if you’re ever out travelling in the outback you can be rest assured that we will be there.

Judy is back on her feet, thanks to you
