Graphic: RFDS to launch on our screens
After years of planning and over five months of shooting, the new TV drama that depicts the work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service will finally air on our screens.
RFDS launches Wednesday 11 August on Channel 7 and stars much-loved Australian actors including Stephen Peacocke and Rob Collins, plus acclaimed actors Emma Hamilton and Justine Clarke.
Despite the challenges of a global pandemic, the Flying Doctor worked closely with Endemol Shine in the coordination of aircraft, staff, remote airstrip landings, filming at an operational base and set build.
The Flying Doctor took production crew to bases and clinics, plus facilitated the interviewing of doctors, nurses, pilots and patients.
This process took more than a year - with scoping, scripting and pitches thoroughly worked and reworked until we got the news that Channel 7 was aboard for this flight.
Shot on location at our very own Broken Hill Base throughout 2020, some 200 Endemol Shine crew and cast were involved in the filming, with local staff and residents serving as extras.
We are thrilled with the series and while a fictional piece about RFDS– it is true to the passion, dedication, and work that our staff do 24-7 around the country.
The series captures the beauty and brutality of Australia’s vast centre, where doctors, nurses, pilots and support staff of the Flying Doctor negotiate the challenges of emergency rescues across some of the most inhospitable places in the country.
But it is also a story about community and people coming together to laugh, to cry and to triumph over adversity.
