With ongoing demand for healthcare professionals across rural and remote Australia, RFDS South Eastern Section is helping build the future workforce by inspiring young people to explore rewarding careers in health.
More than 900 students, parents, teachers and careers advisers attended the Rural Health Pathways Showcase at Sydney's ICC Darling Harbour on 3 September, where RFDS staff shared firsthand insights into the many career pathways available within rural and remote healthcare.
For many students, the event provided a rare opportunity to speak directly with healthcare professionals, learn about different health careers and gain a better understanding of the vital role these professions play in supporting regional communities.

Ten RFDS team members from Primary Health, Dentistry, Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), and Emergency Retrieval attended the event, sharing their experiences and career journeys with students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.
The RFDS stand at the event gave attendees the opportunity to meet frontline staff, learn about the diverse roles available across the organisation and explore the many pathways into rural healthcare. Interactive displays, including a clinical training mannequin and an aquaponics demonstration, helped bring those conversations to life.
Building awareness of healthcare careers at an early stage is an important step in strengthening Australia's future rural health workforce. By connecting students with real healthcare professionals and sharing firsthand experiences, RFDS is helping young people understand not only what careers are available, but the meaningful difference they can make in the lives of people living in regional, rural and remote communities.

Partnerships with organisations such as Rural Doctors Network play an important role in supporting these efforts, connecting students with industry professionals and providing valuable exposure to study pathways and career opportunities across the healthcare sector.
