The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, we deliver extensive health care and 24-hour emergency service to those who live in and travel through remote, rural and regional Australia.

This Full Time role would be based with the Aviation Management group at our O'Riordan Street offices. The role is responsible for supporting the Head of Flight Operations in the management, control and coordination of all functions relevant to Flight Operations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of RFDS aircraft, by ensuring that all flight operations are conducted in compliance with the Act, the Regulations and the Civil Aviation Orders. This role is a CASA approved delegate for the Head of Flight Operations and should maintain or be able to attain the same set of approvals and delegations. This role does include a significant commitment to travel across our section.

The key duties for this role include

  • Hold position of Head of Training and Checking.
  • Manage CASA approved training and checking system to ensure all flight crew are properly trained and current at all times.
  • Monitor operational standards. Maintain satisfactory training records. Supervise check and training of RFDSSE Flight Crew.
  • Conduct Instrument Proficiency Checks, line checks, line training and B200 and B350 type training. Conduct CAO 20.11 proficiency assessments.
  • Liaise with Head of Flight Operations on design and implementation of pilot training programs in accordance with the organisation's Training and Checking Manual.
  • Develop, implement and manage a system to monitor flight crew performance and ensure pilot standards are of the required level.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to ensure maintenance of training and safety standards.

The Successful Applicant

You are a passionate, highly motivated and organised professional with proven experience in a check and training environment. You will also bring to the role;

  • A current ATPL
  • Have CAR 5 or current CASR Part 61 Flight Instructor Rating, or equivalent, with multi engine training approval.
  • You will have KIngair B200 aeronautical experience and (preferably) a B350 type rating and aeronautical experience.
  • Current IPC and MEA flight review.
  • Have excellent administrative, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have the following requirements as a minimum
    • 2,000 hours in command hours multi engine flight time.
    • 1,000 hours turbine flight time.
    • 500 night flying experience
  • Previous experience as a Chief Pilot would be highly regarded. Previous experience in a non-flying management role would be advantageous as would financial literacy, team and asset management.
