Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) is now seeking applications for the full-time position of Chief Pilot and Head of Flight Operations based out of their Sydney office.
The Chief Pilot and Head of Flight Operations, as a CASA approved person, will be responsible for the AOC, the management, control and coordination of all functions relevant to Flight Operations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of RFDS aircraft, by ensuring that all flight operations are conducted in compliance with the Act, the Regulations and the Civil Aviation Orders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Hold position of Head of Flight Operations/ Chief Pilot for RFDS (South Eastern Section)
• Manage Chief Pilot duties and responsibilities as per CASA requirements
• Oversee, manage and co-ordinate flying operations
• Manage resources within Flight Operations and oversee the recruitment of pilots and other operational staff to ensure flight crew resource availability as per service requirements
• Monitor operational standards to ensure aviation operations are in compliance
• Maintain training records and supervise training and checking of RFDS SE flight crew.
• Actively participate in RFDS Integrated Safety Management System and assist the Head of Risk and Assurance in regard to Flight Operations related occurrence investigations, audit and risk related activities.
• Develop an aviation plan and budget for the safe, efficient and effective delivery of aviation services and provide strategic advice to management as required
• Oversee and supervise the functions and performance of the Training and Checking Organisation
• Provide advice to Airworthiness and Engineering Managers in planning Maintenance activities
• Provide strategic advice to GM Aviation and GM Base Operations & Service Delivery on fleet related matters and support development of efficient and effective aviation plans
• Act on behalf of the organisation in liaising with Government regulatory authorities and other organisations as required to ensure continuity of service
Skills / Experience/ Other Requirements
• Current CASA Chief Pilot Approval or previous experience as Chief Pilot
• A current ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence)
• Current or previously Grade One flight instructor rating, or equivalent, with multi engine training approval.
• Instrument Rating with current proficiency check.
• B200 aeronautical experience and B350 Kingair type rating and aeronautical experience. Current proficiency check for MEA.
• 2,000 hours in command hours multi engine flight time.
• 1,000 hours turbine flight time.
• 500 hours night flying experience.
• Previous experience in non-flying management role (inside/outside aviation industry) would be advantageous as would financial literacy, team and asset management.
