Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - Full Time
Join the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) and make a lasting difference to mental health care across Western NSW.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the world's largest and most respected aeromedical organisations. Through leading aviation, medical and communications technology, we provide essential primary health care, mental health services and 24/7 emergency support to people living, working and travelling across remote, rural and regional Australia.
We are seeking a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our well-established Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Wellbeing Team. This multidisciplinary team delivers high-quality, recovery-focused care from four Wellbeing Place centres and through outreach services to more than 30 remote communities across Western NSW, travelling by 4WD and light aircraft to reach those who need support most.
This role will support the Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP), funded by the Western NSW Primary Health Network and successfully delivered by RFDS for several years. The introduction of the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner position reflects our commitment to expanding access to advanced mental health care for regional and remote communities.
As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, you will provide coordinated clinical care and therapeutic support to people living with chronic and complex mental health conditions across Broken Hill, Dubbo and Western NSW. The MHNIP model offers exceptional flexibility, enabling consumers to access the right care, at the right time, for as long as they need it—an approach particularly valuable for those experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.
Working collaboratively within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will deliver advanced clinical assessments, diagnostic expertise and evidence-based treatment planning, helping to address health inequities created by geographical isolation. The role combines therapeutic intervention, care coordination and case management, tailoring support to each individual's goals and recovery journey in accordance with MHNIP guidelines and contemporary best practice.
Based in Broken Hill, you will become part of a passionate and supportive team of clinicians, peer workers, community engagement and health promotion professionals, and administrative staff who are dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of people across Western NSW.
