Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, we deliver extensive health care and 24-hour emergency service to those who live in and travel through remote, rural and regional Australia.

We are currently seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Corporate Services team which are based in Broken Hill, Dubbo and Sydney. This position will be responsible for supporting the finance function of RFDS SE and RFDS SE Medical Practices. This includes requirements such as general ledger management and analysis, statutory reporting, management reporting, program/project performance reporting, external audit for half and year end, inter-company accounting, financial governance, and process improvement.

This position can be based in either Broken Hill, Dubbo or Sydney.

The Role

The Financial Accountant role will be responsible for the accounting and financial activities of RFDS SE and RFDS SE Medical Practice.

Month-End Close: Lead the month-end closing process, reconciling accounts and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.

Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyse financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

Program / Project Reporting: Support preparing project / program reports for grant and fundraising expenditure requirements.

General Ledger Maintenance: Maintaining and updating the general ledger. This includes overseeing journal entries, accounts payable and accounts
receivable process, payroll process and ensuring accurate coding.

Variance Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of financial data to identify and explain variances, supporting management in making informed business decisions.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the finance team to assist in the development of budgets and forecasts, providing valuable insights to support decision-making.

Audit Preparation: Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and facilitating a smooth audit process.

Compliance: Stay current with changes in accounting regulations and ensure adherence to relevant financial laws and policies.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance efficiency within the finance function.

About You

Qualifications
  • Degree in Finance/Accounting /Business Studies
  • Professional post graduate qualification and membership CA/CPA or currently studying towards this
Essential Experience & Criteria
  • 4+ years of experience
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Technology One Finance experience (desirable)
  • Understanding of audit requirements, preparation of statutory accounts, taxation, and reporting
  • Proactive approach with a willingness to take on challenges
  • Ability to self manage and to think laterally
  • Ability to communicate clearly business performance to internal stakeholders
  • Self starter able to grasp new systems and processes quickly
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner across all levels of the business
  • Superior technical skills in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in not for profit and/or health services
  • Experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders
