Description

Alcohol and Other Drug Worker
Broken Hill – Maximum Term 12 Months Full Time

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) provides comprehensive health services to rural and remote communities in Far West NSW, SA and QLD.

We currently have an opportunity for an Alcohol and other Drug (AoD) Worker to join the Mental Health Alcohol and other Drug (MHAoD) team based in Broken Hill to support the service delivery for the Outreach Drug and Alcohol services. This is an exciting and challenging role so if you have relevant qualifications and experience as per below, or are willing to learn, and have an interest in remote practice, we would love to hear from you.

This role will focus on community engagement activities ranging from provision of written and verbal information to public presentations, advocacy, community development, group facilitation, and one on one engagement, including counselling and case management. These wrap around our GROW Program (Guiding Rural Outback Wellbeing). It will be important for the workers to understand the principles and practical applications of community engagement. The role will also be assisting in grant applications and writing of grants.

No two days are the same in this role, one day you may be travelling out to remote communities, other days you will undertake engagement activities by telephone or Skype, or face to face at one of our hub locations.

The successful candidate will:
  • Demonstrate qualifications or experience in community engagement, preferably in an outreach setting or a drug and alcohol related field such as mental health & wellbeing, community services or general health;
  • Be willing to complete further education as required
  • Be competent and confident in networking, community development, advocacy and working in partnership preferably in a rural and remote setting;
  • Be confident in computer literacy;
  • Be able to provide evidence of COVID19 Vaccination (2 doses).
  • Must be capable and confident public speaker and manage delivering education sessions ranging from school groups, health professionals and various demographics within the community.

Experience in counselling in one on one and group settings will be an advantage.
