Description

Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) is now seeking applications for the full-time position of Head of Flight Operations (HOFO) and Chief Pilot (CP) based out of our Sydney office.

The HOFO/CP, as a CASA-approved person, is responsible for the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) management, control and coordination of all functions relevant to flight operations. The HOFO/CP oversees the safe and efficient operation of RFDSSE aircraft by ensuring that all flight operations comply with the Act, the Regulations and the Civil Aviation Orders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hold the position of Head of Flight Operations/ Chief Pilot for RFDS (South Eastern Section)
  • Manages and leads the pilot workforce in line with the organisational code of conduct and values
  • Oversee, manage and co-ordinate flying operations on behalf of RFDSSE
  • Manage resources within Flight Operations and oversee the recruitment of pilots and other operational staff to ensure flight crew resource availability as per service requirements
  • Ensures training records of the RFDSSE flight crew are maintained
  • Actively participate in RFDSSE Safety Management System
  • Oversee and supervise the functions and performance of the Training and Checking Organisation, including RFDSSE Service Level Agreements
  • Develop an aviation plan and budget for the safe, efficient and effective delivery of aviation services and provide strategic advice to Executive as required
  • Act on behalf of the organisation in liaising with Government regulatory authorities and other organisations as required to ensure continuity of service
Skills, experience and other requirements
  • Extensive experience in a similar senior leadership role, with a demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven highly developed leadership skills, particularly in relation to managing a remote workforce
  • A demonstrated ability to drive and manage change within a multi function operating environment
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the applicable CASA legislation as it relates to Flight Operations
  • 4000 hours total experience
  • 1500 hours multi-engine experience in command (Multi-engine aircraft)
  • 300 hours instrument flight time
  • 500 hours night flight time (at least 150 hours)
Additionally, preferential consideration will be given to candidates with:
  • Previously or currently holds CASA approvals as a HOFO/Chief Pilot.
  • Air Transport Pilot Licence
  • A valid flight instructor rating,
  • An Examiner rating
  • A Multi-engine Instructor Rating
