Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, we deliver telehealth and a 24-hour emergency retrieval service to rural and remote Australia.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (South Eastern Section) (RFDSSE) service is looking for an Airworthiness Technical Services Engineer with tertiary qualifications at degree or post graduate level in aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical or electrical engineering or aviation management, or equivalent industry experience or extensive aircraft maintenance experience and associated licences to join our team in Sydney.
As the Airworthiness Technical Services Engineer you will be responsible for providing broad technical support to general management and the airworthiness, maintenance and flight operations departments to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations in all matters related to the continuing airworthiness of the RFDS SE fleet.
Responsibilities also include:
- Responsible for assessing airworthiness literature from national airworthiness authorities, aircraft, component and equipment original equipment manufacturers and approved aircraft modification design organisations.
- Responsible for incorporation of relevant technical requirements into the aircraft maintenance programs.
- Responsible for development of meeting agendas and minutes, chairing meetings and implantation of action items.
- Advises the Head of Airworthiness on safety critical events and major defects by conducting investigations and developing solutions to problems.
- Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing technical expertise to the Head of Engineering, the Head of Airworthiness and maintenance personnel by providing specialised technical advice, documentation and AOG support.
- Responsible for development and implementation of strategic aircraft maintenance plans and work-scopes.
- Develop solutions for complex strategic issues pertaining to aircraft configuration and reliability and the impacts of regulatory change upon the RFDS fleet.
- Develop operational solutions to strategic objectives and plans and guide their implementation.
- Innovative development of new approaches and methods in response to regulatory change to achieve efficiencies in aircraft maintenance planning practices.
- Supports the safety and quality audits and investigations with specialised technical advice.
- Assists the Head of Airworthiness to obtain pricing and availability from AMOs, Part 21M or OEMs and relevant parties for any proposed aircraft modifications.
- Responsible for improving fleet reliability by developing and implementing fleet reliability programs, monitoring systems and improvement plans.
- Ensures the aircraft maintenance programs remain compliant with CASA regulations by conducting regular reviews of the maintenance programs.
- Guides action plans by developing recommendations arising from investigation and review activities for management review.
- Responsible for airworthiness safety standards by monitoring fleet MEL utilisation and developing remedial interventions when required.
- Identifies and remove rogue components from RFDS inventory by monitoring recurring defects.
- Coordinates assessment and compliance of new ADs with the engineering department.
- Researches and develops aircraft project and modification work-scopes and implementation plans.
- Continuously monitors current and proposed NAA requirements for possible effect in relation to the RFDS aircraft operations and advise on future aircraft modification requirements.
- Conducts regular technical reviews of the fleet and where required ensure that the engineering department are provided with technical support and advice.
- Engages with relevant stakeholders including key decision makers to influence and achieve outcomes and provide technical support and advice within area of responsibility. information gathering, consultation and technical support by travelling between RFDS.
- Hold tertiary qualifications at degree or post graduate level in aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical or electrical engineering or aviation management, or equivalent industry experience
- Demonstrated Continued Airworthiness Management Organisation and industry experience
- Hold or have held an aircraft maintenance engineer licence issued by CASA or equivalent
- Experience with computerised aircraft engineering and/or aircraft maintenance control and management applications and programs
- Possesses detailed and specialised technical knowledge and experience in developing or managing aircraft continuing airworthiness maintenance programs and/or aircraft reliability programs with Part 23 and/or Part 25 aircraft
- Well-developed problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct critical analysis and identify root cause
- Skilled in conducting in depth research and applying knowledge and experience in conducting technical analysis and preparation of technical reports
- Skilled in investigation and research techniques pertinent to aircraft airworthiness standards
- Skilled in developing aircraft maintenance and reliability programs
- Proficient in use of cloud services and work within the cloud environment
- Proficient in use and/or implementation of engineering/asset management applications
- Competent in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and computer-based maintenance systems such as IAS and Rusada Envision
