The South Eastern Section of the RFDS provides aeromedical services throughout remote and regional areas of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania with a fleet of 19 special mission, Beechcraft King Air B200C/B300C aircraft.

Our Engineering Department provides Aircraft Maintenance and Servicing for the RFDSSE fleet of aircraft at bases in Broken Hill, Dubbo, Sydney, Essendon and Launceston.

The RFDS SE is seeking Expressions of Interest from persons considering an apprenticeship as a B2 Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. This apprenticeships for a B2 position will be offered at the RFDSSE Aircraft Maintenance facility in Dubbo, NSW.

The position is for a term of 4 years with the potential for an offer of permanent engineering employment at the conclusion of a successful apprenticeship. During the term of the apprenticeship there will be opportunities to attend short term work at other bases within the RFDSSE network to gain further experience in the organisation’s operations. The position will suit a highly motivated applicant who has a desire to achieve a fulfilling career in aviation avionics maintenance. Qualifications will be gained through the NSW TAFE system by block release programs to Certificate IV/Diploma levels and will require applicants to have a proven culture of dedicated study.

Preference will be given to applicants from Dubbo and surrounding areas who show an aptitude for interests or hobbies within an electrical/electronic field. Demonstration at interview, of knowledge in these areas and any projects you have completed or have underway, would be advantageous to the applicant.

It is expected that the apprenticeships will commence in late 2021 or early January 2022, however, dates are flexible and will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants are required to have:
  • Minimum of School Certificate level with preference for Year 12 completion
  • Successful passes in Mathematics, Physics and English
  • Demonstrated Electronics Aptitude and Achievement
  • Demonstrated IT Skills
  • Willingness to work hard towards achieving a successful Aviation Avionics Career
  • Willingness to travel to other districts to attend TAFE
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Names and Contacts of 2 referees
  • Evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination

Working hours will be in line with those of the Dubbo engineering hangar and the RFDSSE Regional Enterprise Agreement and could involve some shift work and overtime in the second and subsequent years of the apprenticeship.

Remuneration will be in accordance with the terms of the existing Enterprise Agreement “ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE OF AUSTRALIA (SOUTH EASTERN SECTION) ENGINEERS AGREEMENT 2020”.
