Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia South Eastern Section provides comprehensive health services to rural and remote communities in far west NSW, SA and QLD.

The Section works with local health services to implement primary health care in the communities served by the Section. This position assists in improving the mental health of people living in rural and remote areas by providing greater access to mental health support.

We're currently offering a parental leave contract until May 2022 based in Cobar. This role will provide counselling-psychological therapies to people living in Cobar and a 2-hour service radius who are experiencing mild-moderate mental ill-health, substance use problems or generalised wellbeing stressors.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work flexible hours, travel extensively in the service region, work collaboratively, work alone or with minimal supervision and provide consultations by using various methods.

Qualifications & Experience that are essential:

  • Degree in Psychology or Counselling or
  • Accredited Mental Health Nurse
  • Postgraduate experience of 2 years in the mental health field
Desirable:
  • Trauma-informed service delivery training/experience
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications and basic medication management
  • Experience in rural and remote population health
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
  • Experience working with rural and remote clients in pastoral settings
  • Artistic or creative therapy and workshop experience to support non-medical model approaches to compliment clinical services of the role
