Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) provides comprehensive health services to rural and remote communities in Far West NSW, SA and QLD.

We are seeking two energetic Alcohol and other Drug (AoD) Community Engagement Workers to operate in an outreach model from the hub locations of Dubbo and Lightning Ridge. The roles will focus on community engagement activities ranging from provision of written and verbal information, to public presentations, advocacy, community development, group facilitation and one on one engagement. There will also be some long-term case management, aimed at engaging clients in their own communities. It will be important for the workers to have an understanding of the principles and practical applications of community engagement.

Additional activities may include; health promotion; community level education; education to GP’s and other health service providers; school-based education; and holistic health screening initiatives. The AoD Community Engagement Workers will work closely with AoD Clinicians (RFDSSE positions) and other stakeholders such as GP’s, community mental health services, community referral services, and community members.

On some days, this varied role will take you to remote communities, other days you will undertake engagement activities by telephone or Skype, or face to face at one of our hub locations.

The successful applicants will demonstrate qualifications or experience in community engagement, preferably in an outreach setting or a drug and alcohol related field such as social work, psychology, social science, community services or health. They will be competent and confident in networking, community development, advocacy and working in partnership preferably in a rural and remote setting. Experience in counselling in one on one and group settings will be an advantage.
