Mental Health Professional

Multi-Disciplinary – Youth and Adult experience preferable

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, we deliver extensive health care and 24-hour emergency service to those who live in and travel through remote, rural and regional Australia.

RFDS Broken Hill Base/Wellbeing Place works with local health services to implement primary health care in the communities served to assist in improving the mental health of people living in rural and remote areas by providing greater access to mental health services.
This role operates a hub and spoke model, flying and driving to remote communities and station clinics within the network. Significant amount of clinical work will be delivered at the Wellbeing Place to both local and outlying individuals and families.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Provide mental health services for clients with a diagnosable mental illness
  • Facilitate a group based program (either skills based or therapeutic) in the Wellbeing Place
  • Providing clinical assessment and management of the patient through a comprehensive care plan
  • Providing services at sites acceptable and accessible to the wider community
Qualifications & Experience that are essential:
  • Degree in mental health field
  • Experience in primary mental health care including psychotherapy practice.
Desirable:
  • Post graduate qualifications in relevant area
  • Experience working with youth and adults (child-adolescent/family)
  • Experience in rural / remote / population health
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
  • Experience in Aboriginal Health specialising in Mental Health services
  • Experience working with rural/remote clients in pastoral settings
