The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is based at the Launceston Airport and was officially formed in 1960. Originally, a sole aeromedical service, the RFDS has grown steadily to now providing a professional and dedicated team who deliver a holistic health care service across most of the local government areas in Tasmania. We work in partnership with general practitioners, allied health professionals and local service providers to deliver physical health and mental health programs, as well as an award-winning outreach dental program. Our vision is to improve the health outcomes for all Tasmanians with a specific focus on remote and rural areas. We are one of six RFDS operating sections (Central Operations, QLD section, South Eastern section, Victorian section, Western Operations and Tasmanian section) which makes up RFDS Australia. About the Role
The RFDS Tasmania Mobile Dental Care program commenced in 2017 and is a vital link to the provision of high-quality oral health care to our rural population and aged care facilities. We are currently experiencing significant growth and are expanding our dental team to meet the needs of the business. This position will require weekly travel away from home and overnight stays, to ensure RFDS can deliver our dental services to rural and remote communities throughout Tasmania.
We are open to discussing what this trainee opportunity may look like, be it a full-time commitment or somebody wanting to do a school based traineeship (i.e. continue with their schooling to complete Year 11 or 12 whilst working and commencing the Dental Assistant Traineeship).
In this position, the successful incumbent/s will complete a Certificate III and Certificate IV in Dental Assisting, whilst working on the job and gaining valuable practical experience. Some of the typical duties will include coordinating appointments and preparing patients for treatment; chairside assistance, alongside our Dentists and Oral Therapists, for various oral health procedures, critical infection control processes, and administration in terms of patient record keeping/charting. These are busy and varied positions, which will enable the incumbent/s to learn a lot.
About You (Selection Criteria)
We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who are keen to pursue a career as a Dental Assistant, or start their career as a Dental Assistant and then progress into other areas within Dentistry further down the track. We are looking for people who are passionate about learning, who will commit to the duration of the traineeship and complete the associated units of competency to complete the nationally recognised qualification.
Our successful applicants will have good communication skills, be professional and mature in their approach, be organised, have good attention to detail and be a team player.
Essential requirements also include: Current Drivers Licence, Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration; Current First Aid, CPR and Hand Hygiene Certification and up-to-date COVID vaccinations.
