Reporting to the Head of Logistics & Business Continuity, this role is responsible for optimal management and day-to-day performance of the Operations Centre through the application of correct processes and practices, focussing on the effective placement of resources for best patient outcome.

This role will develop, maintain and grow a portfolio of service delivery operations that are customer-focused, high-quality, cost effective and sustainable.

Key Responsibilities

Leading People

  • Lead by example; model and promote our RFDS values and behaviours at all times.
  • Lead culture initiatives, supporting positive transformation and employee engagement within the team and across the operations function.
  • Participate actively and work closely and constructively with internal stakeholders to deliver integrated business outcomes.
  • Establish, monitor and evaluate KPIs for direct reports and ensure their knowledge and skills are grown through appropriate training and development opportunities.
  • Maintain a constructive leadership and communication style that supports all employees to feel respected and valued as part of our organisation.
  • Ensure clear role definitions and accountabilities are in place to support the performance of the business unit.
  • Foster the professional growth of employees by recommending and or implementing development plans, providing regular performance feedback, and addressing performance concerns promptly.
  • Identify and coordinate training and development activities to ensure employees are equipped to deliver expected outcomes.

Leading Change

  • Lead business transformation initiatives
  • Identify and implement business improvement opportunities and participate in continuous improvement of the wider organisation by recommending sensible changes and communicating issues that may impact the organisation.
  • Manage and maintain team effectiveness during significant changes to work tasks or working environment.

Leading Strategy

  • Contribute to the creation, implementation and execution of overall long-term strategy and plans.
  • Implement strategy and prioritise in alignment with the RFDS purpose, mission, organisation strategy and business initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of workforce plans and implement strategies to ensure optimal and efficient team structures and resourcing levels are in place.
  • Contribute to management reports as required.

Operational Excellence

  • Effectively manage day-to-day business and ensure internal and external key performance indicators and expectations are met.
  • Effectively manage business unit time and resources to ensure that work is prioritised and completed efficiently, with a consistency of effort among team members.
  • Respond to service delivery concerns promptly, making recommendations and sound decisions considering potential business impact.
  • Identify and implement process improvement and cost management initiatives in line with strategic business requirements.
  • Manage budgets and monitor budget performance.
  • Promote a positive public image of RFDS in external media and public events as agreed and when required.

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • Degree in business or similar discipline, or significant relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading people and managing performance successfully across a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a senior leadership team and to meet individual and corporate accountabilities
  • Strong customer service skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent strategic decision-making and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated experience in multitasking and the ability to make optimal decisions in a timely manner
  • Experience in emergency management, aviation and/or primary health care/pre-hospital care will be advantageous
