Quality and Infection Control Nurse
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has an outstanding history of service and excellence in aero-medical and primary health care across Australia. One of Australia’s most iconic brands, every hour of every day the RFDS is performing lifesaving work across Western Australia.
We are presently seeking a Quality and Infection Control Nurse to provide subject matter expertise in the areas of Infection Prevention and Control for services in an aeromedical and primary health care environment. This newly created role will work 0.8FTE or 4 days per week, splitting the time evenly of Infection Control and Quality.
About the role
Able to advise accordingly on infection Prevention and Control principles
Initiates and participates in epidemiology and surveillance relevant to infection prevention and control
Oversees and maintains the Hand Hygiene Program and ensures RFDS meet internal and jurisdictional targets
Monitors and support immunisations rates and uptake and reports accordingly
Investigates actual or potential outbreaks and assists the Head of Medical with infection control incident investigation reviews
Coordinates the management of patients under transmission based precautions
Initiates and participates in RFDS quality and performance improvement NSQHS audit schedule and activities
Undertakes auditing and risk management activities associated with maintaining accreditation with NSQHS standards
Participates in incident investigation and reviews as required
Initiates Quality improvement activities and acts as a resource person for staff on all matters relating to Infection Prevention and Control
Monitors and develops policies and procedures that relate to staff health, immunisation and management of blood and body fluid exposure
Provides Infection Prevention and control advice on physical environment, equipment, food hygiene, cleaning and waste management and other appropriate issues including legionella and water testing across bases
About you
Registration as a General Nurse with AHPRA
Post Graduate in Infection Prevention and Control
Report writing and high level communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to quality improvement and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS)
Demonstrated knowledge of occupational safety and health issues as they relate to infection prevention and control
Demonstrated knowledge of cross cultural issues
Immunisation Certificate
Gold standard Hand Hygiene Auditor or willing to attain (desirable)
Qualification and/or experience in auditing and risk management principles (desirable)
Experience in rural/remote setting (desirable)
Root cause analysis experience (desirable)
