Information Security Technician

The Information Security Technician plays a crucial role in safeguarding data and systems, ensuring compliance with regulations, and protecting the brand and reputation of RFDS. Their tasks include developing security policies, conducting audits, assessing risks, responding to incidents, and providing regular security reports to management. Additionally, they oversee the effective deployment and monitoring of security systems across the entire network.



About you

- Minimum 3 years of experience in information security.
- In-depth knowledge of security threats and trends.
- Experience in cloud security with knowledge of AWS and/or Azure security
- Advanced understanding of Information Security principles and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data management principles, data security and compliance regulations.
- Experience using security technologies, data management software and event monitoring tools.
- Experience in securing ICT networks, infrastructure and applications with cyber security risk identification and mitigation strategies.
- Experience with incident response, vulnerability management and penetration testing.
- Working knowledge of different authentication technologies.
- Strong knowledge of security standards, regulations and frameworks, eg Privacy Act, Essential 8, NIST, PCI DSS, ISO 27001.
- Experience in deploying security awareness and training programs.
- Relevant cyber security certifications e.g. CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker, CCNA, GSEC.
- Degree in Information Technology, Information Management, Cybersecurity, or similar disciplines (or) significant relevant industry and positional experience (desirable)


About the role

- Evaluate, recommend and implement security technologies and tools
- Monitor and respond to potential security threats
- Oversee access permissions and privileges across the network and applications stacks, ensuring they align with security policies and principles.
- Ensure classification, protection and encryption mechanisms are in place.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to data disposal, manage data destruction activities, and ensure all data and information sharing complies with data handling policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, assess and prioritise internal and external security risks, and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Perform regular vulnerability assessments and scans across network and systems.
- Monitor backup and disaster recovery processes
- Create, update and enforce information security policies, standards and procedures.
- Conduct security awareness and training programs
- Prepare and manage security audits, assessments, penetration tests and compliance checks
- Assist to safeguard Operational Technology components
- Prepare and manage records of security incidents, policies, procedures and compliance documentation.
- Generate incident, compliance and cyber risk performance reports.

About Us

The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. A further 10,000 appointments are provided in primary healthcare clinics in remote communities, including GP, nurse, dental and mental health care. The RFDS in WA operates five bases in Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.



In 2024, the RFDS is launching a new five-year strategy ‘Above and Beyond’, which will mark an important new chapter in the long Flying Doctor history. The strategy will include a focus on expanding remote health clinics in some of WA’s most vulnerable communities, expanding our profit-for-purpose services, strengthening our workforce, harnessing technology and addressing our environmental sustainability.
