The RFDS currently transfers patients every day using our flagship 24/7 aeromedical service. Additionally, patients receive primary health care services through RFDS clinics in remote Kimberley, Pilbara, Goldfields and Mid West communities. With five regional bases and 22 aircraft, the RFDS is committed to providing the finest care to the furthest corners of WA.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is seeking a Director of Operations to ensure effective service delivery and maximise on opportunities for strategic growth. This newly created role, reporting to the CEO and will be responsible for leading a large team to drive successful service delivery as well as purposefully considering selected expansion opportunities to pursue strategic excellence. Reporting to the CEO you will be responsible for ensuring operating functions of Aviation, Aeromedical, Primary Health Care and Performance & Operations work collaboratively and effectively. Responsibilities will include:
- Growth & Business Delivery – maximising on current and emerging commercial opportunities, and driving innovation, good practice and compliance
- Continuous Improvement - leading business transformation initiatives and developing collaboration across the operations group
- Business Strategy & Operations - contributing to the development of the Strategic Plan and driving implementation within the operations group
- Executive Leadership - promoting and modelling culture, values and behaviour as a member of the Executive Leadership Team
To be effective in this role you should demonstrate:
- A proven track record in strategic leadership and operational excellence
- A commercial acumen that has resulted in business growth through transformational change
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a common purpose and direction within your teams
- Strong business functional skills – strategic development, stakeholder management, budgets, business analysis, safety, risk and marketing

About Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations)
The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. A further 10,000 appointments are provided in primary healthcare clinics in remote communities, including GP, nurse, dental and mental health care. RFDS crews are committed to providing the finest care to the furthest corners of the State, using the highest standards of clinical care, aviation safety and technology to make a difference to people living and working across WA – the largest and most remote health jurisdiction in the world.
The RFDS in WA operates five bases in Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.
