The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Tasmania was officially formed in 1960 and has grown steadily from a sole aeromedical service into a professional and dedicated organisation delivering holistic healthcare services across Tasmania.

We work in partnership with general practitioners, allied health professionals and local service providers to deliver physical and mental health programs, as well as an award-winning outreach dental service. About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified Adult Mental Health Worker to join our Mental Health Team.

The successful candidate will provide therapeutic support to adults living in rural and remote communities, delivering evidence-based mental health interventions within a community-based, mild-to-moderate service model.

This position is full-time (part-time may be considered) and reports directly to the Team Leader – Mental Health. The role covers the Dorset and Break O'Day municipalities and is offered on a fixed-term basis until 30 June 2027.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver person-centred mental health care, promote recovery and wellbeing, and support clients to build resilience, strengthen coping strategies and access appropriate services within their local communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based mental health interventions and supports to people aged 18 years and over.
• Deliver therapeutic interventions to individuals, families, support persons and groups where appropriate.
• Provide care coordination, brief case support and transfer-of-care services when required.
• Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain a contemporary understanding of mental health presentations, recovery-oriented practice and trauma-informed care.
• Continuously develop professional practice through reflection, supervision, training and ongoing learning.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support community wellbeing, mental health promotion and local service capacity.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with community organisations, health professionals and other key stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organisational requirements.
• Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
• Operate in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards, the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, and the National Standards for Mental Health Services.
• Make sound clinical decisions within scope of practice and seek support when required.

Travel Requirements

This position requires regular travel throughout the Dorset and Break O'Day municipalities, including outreach to rural and remote communities.

Essential Requirements

• Experience providing evidence-based mental health support services within a clinical or community setting.
• Experience delivering services either face-to-face and/or via telehealth.
• Ability to effectively manage a caseload and prioritise competing demands.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to engage, liaise and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrated understanding of recovery-oriented practice and trauma-informed care.
• Proven ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
• Current Driver Licence.
• Working with Vulnerable People Registration.
• Current National Police Check.
• Valid working rights within Australia.

Desirable Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, counselling, or a related discipline.
• Current registration or membership with one of the following professional bodies:
  
  • Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Australian Counselling Association (ACA) – Level 3 or 4 preferred
  • Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) – Clinical Registration preferred

Applicants without a tertiary qualification may still be considered where they can demonstrate substantial relevant experience (minimum five years) in mental health service delivery and can provide relevant professional referees.
