An Aboriginal Health Coordinator position operates from RFDS Port Augusta Base to assist in building and maintaining a high level of trust and rapport with Aboriginal people of all ages, nursing staff and health professionals. This includes helping to maintain up to date and accurate patient records and working with the Port Augusta Hospital and Pika Wiya Aboriginal Liaison Officers to ensure that the needs of RFDS Aboriginal patients are met.

The Aboriginal Health Coordinator has an understanding of different Aboriginal cultural backgrounds and helps to promote personal responsibility for health among Aboriginal people and to make use of services available in the community. The Aboriginal Health Coordinator also provides social welfare support for RFDS Aboriginal patients an safe transport to and from medical services.
