Movie buffs from Sydney to Switzerland competed in the RFDS’s first ever online quiz fundraiser in May, raising more than $10,000.

COVID-19 restrictions may have stopped the much-loved annual 'Wings For Life' Gala Ball this year but supporters keenly stepped up to support the Flying Doctor’s inaugural online fundraising event instead.

The movie trivia night, themed ‘A Night in Hollywood’ and hosted by RFDS ambassador Jessica Adamson, brought together more than 700 participants from around Australia and the world.

Congratulations to the three teams who topped the leader board at the end of six rounds – Nellie’s Angels in first place, the Ingrams in second place and the Lady and the Tramp coming in third.

“This event was one of the first online fundraising initiatives launched by a major not-for-profit in response to the rapidly changing environment caused by COVID-19,” Charlie Paterson, RFDS Executive General Manager, Marketing & Stakeholder Relations, said.

“It was such a popular concept that we ran a second online quiz in August that attracted another 630 supporters and raised almost $7000."

The event marked a year of generous support from so many groups and individuals.

October’s Spring OZ Outback Odyssey raised an impressive $183,650 for the RFDS and the inaugural Steps Up fundraiser where participants were challenged to track their walks, runs and rides raised more than $10,000.
