About the Royal Flying Doctor Service Central Operations (RFDSCO)

We are leaders in providing aeromedical and primary health care services to people in remote, rural and regional locations across South Australia and the Northern Territory. As we head towards our 100th year of providing services, we are launching a new strategic plan with a focus on becoming more specialised, more innovative and a better-connected health service provider. We continually invest in our people, infrastructure and technology to improve our patient-centred care.

About this Role

As our next Remote Area Nurse (RAN), you will be inspired to provide high quality, culturally appropriate nursing care for patients within a remote healthcare environment across both primary and emergency healthcare. You will collaborate with RFDS’ primary healthcare teams to ensure an integrated service approach, focussing on prevention and early intervention.

You will be motivated to utilise your knowledge of – and passion for – patient triaging, chronic disease management, culturally safe practice and health promotion to deliver a comprehensive health service to remote South Australians.

This position is based in Marree, located 660km northeast of Adelaide. Marree is an important service centre for the large sheep and cattle stations in the area as well as a stopover destination for tourists travelling along the Birdsville or Oodnadatta Tracks. The town of Marree has a population of approximately 100 and a district population of approximately 500. The town has a rich Aboriginal and Afghan history. You may also be required to work in additional remote clinics at Marla (970km northwest of Adelaide) and Andamooka (594km north of Adelaide). This position operates off a 6/2 roster.

About You

You will

  • Be a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post qualification general nursing experience
  • have significant experience providing primary and/or emergency health services in remote Australia
  • have a demonstrated understanding of the principles of Primary Health care, community development and the social determinants of health
  • demonstrate the ability to work independently, collaboratively and effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to demonstrate initiative, compassion and enthusiasm.

If you have an adventurous spirit and enjoy making a positive difference to the health outcomes of individuals living in remote and rural communities, this could be the opportunity for you!
